Benefits & Indications:  We have packaged the perfect balance (50/50) of premium organic split mung beans together with basmati rice. Split mung bean and basmati rice is a staple food of Ayurveda and is also very well known throughout Indian culture as a healing recipe. The combination of mung and basmati rice is famously called “kitchari or kichadi” and is known as the ideal food to combat disease or any illness as kitchari is easy to digest, highly nutritious and promotes immunity.

The mung bean is the most balancing (tri-doshic) of all legumes because it is easy to digest, nutritious, and high in protein. When the mung bean is split and the hull is removed it makes it much easier to cook and digest and that is why it has a yellow coloring on it. Kitchari is the primary food used during the detoxification process called pancha karma and it is a common meal served at yoga ashrams because it is considered a highly elevated (sattvic) food that supports spiritual lightness and evolution. All can benefit from this sacred combination of mung bean and rice that is organically sourced in Mother Land India and provides many health benefits including improved digestion, circulation, increased immunity, and overall balanced systemic function. Kitchari is traditionally prepared with ghee along with a complete blend of spices (Spice Mix) and sometimes medicated ghees (see our list of ghees) are added. Some prefer to add vegetables to their kitchari, while others enjoy eating it plain, no matter what you choose, we know you will surely enjoy its delicious taste and want to make kichari a regular part of your nutritional lifestyle. Mung and Basmati Rice Kitchari Recipe

How to Prepare.
1/4 to 1/2 cup Mung and Rice Blend
3-4 tbsp Ghee
2.5-3 cups Water
1-2 tbsp Spice Mix

Melt ghee in your pot. Then add Spice Mix. Allow the seeds to sizzle and pop.
Add the beans & rice stir well to cover the mix with the ghee and spices. Then add your water. Bring to a low simmer for 16-18 minutes.
Add a dash of black salt for taste.
Serve and enjoy

Note. Rinse the mung beans & rice thoroughly before cooking. The mix does not require prior soaking.
